HTTP status: 429 · Code: RATE_LIMIT_EXCEEDED

Example

Cause

Limits apply per API key and per endpoint, in four fixed windows (per second, minute, hour and day). A request over any of them is rejected, not queued. The response carries Retry-After and the X-RateLimit-* headers, and no X-API-Version.

What to do

Wait Retry-After seconds before retrying. It is the length of the exhausted window (1, 60, 3600 or 86400), so waiting that long always clears that window. If another window is also used up, the retry gets a new 429 with that window’s Retry-After; wait again. See Rate limiting for the limits of each endpoint. See Error handling for the full error model.
